Scott Spark DC 40 Bike Info
Scott Spark DC 40 Bike is built for riders who came up racing cross-country but want a mountain bike that's just as happy linking trails all day as it is on the start line. It's Scott's downcountry take on the Spark platform, adding travel and descending confidence to the Spark's XC-bred efficiency without turning it into a full trail bike.
The frame is molded from Scott's HMF carbon in the Gen5 Spark DC layout, and the suspension design is the real story here. Rather than a conventional rear pivot at the seatstay, the Spark DC uses a flex-stay design that Scott tunes for anti-squat and traction under power, prioritizing climbing efficiency and pedaling feel over maximum descending travel. The RockShox Deluxe shock delivers 138mm of rear travel and mounts low along the downtube under a magnetic cover, keeping weight closer to the bottom bracket for more composed handling. Up front, a RockShox Pike fork with a 3-position air spring provides 140mm of travel, and both ends tie into a remote lockout so you can firm up the suspension for pedaling efficiency on fire roads and open it back up before a descent.
Geometry is adjustable, with an angle-adjust headset letting you shift the head tube angle between 64.5 and 65.5 degrees to lean the bike toward stability or quickness depending on the terrain. A 76.2-degree seat tube angle and a lower-than-average bottom bracket round out a geometry that sits on the slacker side for a downcountry bike, giving it more composure on descents than its XC roots might suggest. Scott has also built in a handful of practical details: an integrated steer-stopper to prevent the bar from over-rotating in a crash, an in-frame storage compartment, room for two water bottles in the front triangle, and compatibility with dropper posts up to 225mm on the larger frame sizes.
The build kit keeps things straightforward and dependable. Shimano's Deore drivetrain runs a mechanical M7200 rear derailleur and M6200 shifter, paired with an MT520 crankset on a single 32-tooth ring and a wide-range 10-51 cassette for climbing gears when the trail tips up. Shimano's MT620 four-piston brakes handle stopping power, with a 180mm rotor up front and 160mm in back for extra bite on steep descents. Alex Rims X-30SE wheels come wrapped in Maxxis rubber, a grippy Forekaster up front and a faster-rolling Recon in back, both tubeless-ready out of the box. Syncros rounds out the cockpit with a DC stem, an alloy handlebar, and a Tofino R saddle.
The Spark DC 40 comes in sizes S through XL, in Tender Green. For a rider who wants XC-level pedaling efficiency with enough travel and geometry adjustment to have real fun on the way back down, this is a well-equipped entry point into Scott's Spark DC lineup.
